COMMUNITY EVENTS COORDINATOR
Department: Administration
Pay Grade: 103
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
GENERAL PURPOSE
Develops and implements City-sponsored events in support of the City of Ridgefield’s efforts to create
community, enhance quality of life for all residents, support local businesses and keep the historic
downtown vibrant. The event coordinator provides leadership in every aspect of the events including
creating activities, preparing venue, managing vendors and overseeing happenings on the day of the
events. Helps to promote events through marketing and media relations materials and communication
with the public to include special Holiday events, summer community events, the State of the City, and
First Saturdays.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
Receives general supervision from management staff. Provides leadership and coordination for the
events team. Oversees contactors and a seasonal employee during the summer month (height of the
event season).
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

• Coordinates staff members and committee members to actively develop and implement downtown
revitalization through community events and special activities.
• Helps to maintain current event marketing including website and social media updates, new story
development, and news publications.
• Develops positive working relationships with other local businesses, Public Schools, civic leagues,
non-profit organizations, community members and City partners for participating in the planning,
sponsorship or participation in events.
• Recruits, manages, and directs volunteers to assist in the execution of City events, decorations,
projects, etc.
• Prepares and manages budget for events within established City budget. Purchases all supplies
needed for events, including tents, sound equipment, movie projectors, items needed for fund
raising, prizes for challenges, food and beverages, and any other items necessary for City events.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is
qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
• Education: High School education and/or equivalent. Associates Degree or two years of college
level courses in Public Relations, Communications, or a related field preferred.
• Experience: Four year’s prior experience coordinating a variety of events with much public contact.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of:
• State law as it pertains to event management responsibilities.
• Audio/visual systems and best practice for use at a variety of venues.
Skill in:
• Listening actively, giving full attention to what others are saying, taking time to understand, and
asking questions.
• Communicating effectively in writing as appropriate for the audience.
• Maintaining awareness of others’ reactions and understanding their point of view.
• Coordinating and adjusting actions in relation to others.
• Managing own time and the time of others.
• Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions,
conclusions, and approaches to problems.
• Identifying complex problems and reviewing related information to evaluate options and
implement solutions.

• Adjusting appropriately and working through different problems, issues, errors, or unexpected
changes.
• Keeping multiple, concurrent events moving forward with high quality.
• Using small office equipment and computers.
Ability to:
• Perform basic Math (add, subtract, multiply, and divide).
• Read, write, speak, and understand English, write clearly, effectively present ideas and document
activities, and read and interpret written information.
• Make announcements and other short presentations during events.
• Perform all tasks with ongoing follow-through to assure steps are taken to successfully plan and
execute events.

WORKING CONDITIONS
Full time schedule in the office and managing community events during weekend hours at least one
Saturday per month, and occasionally during the evening.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
• The work is medium work which requires exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up
to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
• The following physical abilities are required: standing, walking, sitting, using hands and fingers to
handle or feel, reaching with hands and arms, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching,
crawling, talking, hearing, and smelling.
