Communications Coordinator City of Ridgefield, WA Updated: 7/2021 CITY OF RIDGEFIELD, WA JOB DESCRIPTION COMMUNICATIONS COORDINATOR Department: Administration Pay Grade: 104 FLSA Status: Non-Exempt GENERAL PURPOSE Coordinates, creates, executes, and/or assists with City communications, including press releases, website content management, social media platforms, newsletters, email distribution, publications/flyers/handouts, and internal employee communication. SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED Receives general supervision from management staff. Provides leadership and coordination for the communications team. Employees are responsible for all other duties as assigned. • Manage the City’s social media communications. • Coordinates City branding and graphics. • Manages website content, including engagement site and Ridgefield Roundtable. • Write, edit and distribute various types of content including material for the website, press releases, marketing material, newsletters, brochures, signs and other types of content that take the message to the public. • Coordinates and manages internal employee communications through employee intranet, monthly employee newsletters, weekly all-employee email announcements, handouts/flyers, and other graphics design. • Handle communication with the public during emergency and crisis situations. • Create processes and efficiencies for communication and public engagement. • Recruits and coordinates volunteers for City projects. Communications Coordinator Page 2 of 3 City of Ridgefield, WA Updated: 7/2021 EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be: • Education: Associate degree in Communications, Journalism, or a related field. • Experience: Three years of related experience. • Certifications/Licenses: None. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES Knowledge of: • Basic Level Microsoft Excel/Word use, Adobe Creative Cloud, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Premiere Rush, Adobe Spark, ARC GIS for Creative Cloud, Website Content Manager. • Modern office systems (copier, personal computer, fax, etc.) and database management software. • Knowledge of best writing and messaging practices for public relations, marketing and social media preferably in a public sector environment. Skill in: • Strong written and verbal communication, maintaining interpersonal communication, and listening to needs of stakeholders and partners. • Organizing, planning, and prioritizing work and developing specific goals and plans to accomplish work. • Reading, writing, speaking, and understanding English, writing clearly, effectively present ideas and documenting activities, and reading and interpreting written information. Ability to: • Multi-task and work on many tasks with varying deadlines. • Communicate professionally with all individuals. WORKING CONDITIONS Work generally takes place in a standard office environment, where the noise and temperature levels are moderate. PHYSICAL DEMANDS • The work is sedentary work which requires exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
