PUBLIC WORKS OPERATIONS COORDINATOR
Department: Public Works
Pay Grade: 104
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
GENERAL PURPOSE
Performs a variety of technical, routine, and non-routine administrative services. Acts as primary point
of contact for departmental employees and public. Serves as clerk to the Park Board and coordinates
the cross-connection backflow program and compliance reporting.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
Works independently with minimal supervision. The position has no day-to-day supervisory
responsibilities but may provide guidance in the form of answering other department employees’
questions.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

• Issues appropriate work orders in response to customer, staff, and facilities inquiries and
complaints.
• Reviews contracts and certified payroll reports to ensure state/federal wage and hour compliance
and provides feedback to contractor’s payroll clerk.
• Processes meter install requests.
• Processes final meter inspection requests.
• Coordinates cross connection control program.
• Composes and files annual water compliance reports requiring extensive research and obtaining
information from different sources.
• Assists with implementation of new technology, analyzes existing work processes, researches and
identifies tools or software to refine workflows, presents recommendations to management, and
composes and submits a budget initiative, when needed.
• Coordinates water utility shutoff bi-monthly.
• Facilitates the City’s streetlight maintenance program.
• Serves as clerk to Parks Board and provides support before, during, and after meetings including
scheduling tours, other meetings, and follow up items from board meetings.

• Oversees transactions for Ridgefield Historic Cemetery, manages the City’s cemetery database and
map, and forwards required legal documents to the State Registrar of Vital Statistics.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is
qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
• Education: High School Diploma or G.E.D.
• Experience: Three years’ experience. Public entity Public Works experience preferred.
• Certifications/Licenses: None.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of:
• Office procedures and protocols.
• Proper English written grammar.
• Basic municipal government knowledge, including codes, regulations, permitting process, and
acronyms.
• State and federal wage and hour law.
• Cross contamination flow program and Water Compliance Reporting.
• Contract administration.
Skill in:
• Strong customer service and problem solving.
• Intermediate math (add, subtract, multiply, divide, and analyze).
• Computers and software, including Microsoft Office, email, and web-based applications.
• Business writing and editing.
Ability to:
• Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing employing discretion, tact, and professionalism.
• Work independently on multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and cope with interruptions effectively.
• Research issues and analyze data and situations.
• Use a computer and associated software effectively.

WORKING CONDITIONS
Work generally takes place indoors, in a climate-controlled environment during normal business hours.
May require occasional attendance at evening meetings and overtime.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
• The work is light work which requires exerting up to 25 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to
10 pounds of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects,
including the human body.
• Must possess the visual ability to see clearly at close (less than 20 inches) and distances and identify
and distinguish colors.
• The following physical abilities are required: standing, walking, sitting, using hands and fingers to
handle or feel, reaching with hands and arms, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching,
crawling, talking, and hearing.
